Match Preview
After having such a good start to the season, last week wasn’t the start we obviously wanted, having to concede a game against Ashton Under-Lyne. On behalf of the club, I’d like to apologise to them and will look forward to the game on 13 th January. Injuries and illness have plagued us for a few weeks and together with holidays, weddings and work commitments, we really struggled to get a team, Stu Hammond was willing to travel from his holiday for the afternoon just to make sure we would get numbers, Micheal Jessiman was determined to play despite a shoulder injury, Mick Richardson with a knee injury again wanted to play and Hamish Rendall was willing to drive from his partners in Carlisle to play, fantastic commitment. One big thing we don’t have is more than one team, we have 26 lads and all of them put in everything they can to make sure we have a team, that says an awful lot about the commitment of them as a group, like on the pitch they all give everything for the club.
So now we look forward and this weekend’s game against Wigan will be another great test for us. Wigan are in the league above us and sit in 3 rd with 3 wins from 3, that just shows you the challenge we have in front of us. We have already played two teams from this league in the cup this season, we had an away win at Ormskirk and a really good performance, despite the 16-0 defeat against Garstang. Wigan is another one of those clubs in the north west that is obviously well ran, it boasts 2 adult teams, a ladies Tag rugby set up and a huge junior section, considering Wigan also has a big Rugby League influence, that just shows the high standards and how organised they are as a club.
Looking at ourselves, we welcome back Connor Parsons and Matt Lago from injury, both were big misses for us in the away win against Blackpool. Sam Norris and Joe Laddle will also give the squad a boost after both been away with long work commitments. These are definitely the games that we need and want to play in though, and despite Wigan being the hot favourites been in the league
above, we have trained hard last week and will be this week and will all be looking forward to getting back on track both in this game and against Vagabonds in the league the week after.
